ShakiraTwo popular singers are in Arizona on Thursday to voice their opposition to the state’s tough new immigration law.Grammy Award-winning Colombian singer Shakira will meet with Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon at City Hall in the evening. Gordon has called the law unconstitutional and has said he may sue on behalf of the city to stop the law from taking effect.

Legendary singer-songwriter Linda Ronstadt will attend a rally that organizers say will draw thousands. Ronstadt grew up in a Mexican-American family in Tucson.

The new law requires police to determine whether a person is in the United States legally. It also requires immigrants to carry their alien registration documents at all times and requires police to question people if there is reason to suspect they’re in the United States illegally.Critics say the law will foster racial profiling.

MARIAH Carey Mariah Carey’s planned remix album of her recent Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel called Angels Advocate  apparently has been scrapped in favor of what her reps are calling “some new surprises.

” The album had been scheduled for a March 30 release, but earlier this week, Carey fansite Mariah Daily Journal cited a management representative as saying the album will not be released. “We are looking to go possibly to another studio album or Christmas album. The decision hasn’t been totally made yet. It’s a creative process that cannot be rushed,” the rep reportedly said.

On Monday, a spokesperson for Carey’s label, Island Def Jam, did not directly confirm that the album had been canceled but said, “We’ve released a few of Mariah’s hot remixes on iTunes and Mariah’s back in the studio working on some new surprises.”

Two tracks slated for the album “Angels Cry” (featuring Ne-Yo) and “Up Out My Face” (featuring Nicki Minaj)  are currently available on the iTunes Store.

The IDJ spokesperson did not elaborate on what the “new surprises” might be, and did not specifically mention plans for a Carey Christmas album. Her last foray into the genre, 1994’s Merry Christmas, was a massive success, and spawned the instant classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” a song which continues to receive Holiday airplay to this day.

MARIAH CareyMARIAH Carey has had a complex about her face since she was 19.The 40-year-old singer admits she has always been self-conscious about her appearance after somebody at her record company pointed it out.“I remember starting out and being at a record company at 19 and having someone tell me, ‘This is your good side and this is your bad side. Don’t ever let anyone take pictures of you from that side. You look terrible from that side,’ and so on. It created this whole complex  like I didn’t already have a complex!” Carey revealed.Mariah   whose mother is Irish-American and her father was an African-American of Venezuelan descent  says she has always been insecure about her looks because she’s mixed-race.“I felt very different as a bi-racial person,” she said. “Growing up where I did, being half-black and half-white was a weird and difficult thing because I didn’t quite fit in either place and I moved around a lot.“So when I went from that to this world it was like, let’s create an inferiority complex before we make this person go on TV and try to have confidence. So it was all about building self-confidence.”

Lady GaGa was only 40 minutes late for the first gig of her UK tour. But her Monsters Ball epic at the Manchester Evening New Arena was well worth the wait. She kicked off Act One with her Brits night track Dance In The Dark, with GaGa wearing an amazing padded leotard. Then she set the raunchy tone of the night by whipping off her shoulder pads to reveal her tiny figure in a sexy strapless leotard.

The crowd was brought to its feet during the appropriately titled Just Dance, before Beautiful, Dirty, Rich – and another costume change. This one saw the Poker Face star in a purple glittery hat and cloak – but not for long. GaGa’s next guise was a red, giant-shouldered gown, as she tickled the ivories on a keyboard/string instrument called Emma. Act Two began with the single Lovegame and new track Telephone.

At one stage her piano burst into flames during her song Speechless – which is exactly how many of us felt. The crowd got another eyeful when a naked GagGa was beamed up on the video screen. But the most spectacular set of the night was saved for last as she performed Paparazzi alongside a giant mechanical octopus.Fans begged the singer to return to the stage for an encore – and she didn’t disappoint, appearing from behind the white curtain in a futuristic white leotard to the beat of her hit Bad Romance. Good stuff!

I don’t see why not. The ideas are always there, so hopefully something will come out of it.”

If The Cranberries are going to commit to an LP – which would be their first studio release since 2001’s ‘Wake Up and Smell the Coffee’ – Dolores wants it to be as good as it can be.The ‘Linger’ singer – who has been working on new material with guitarist Noel Hogan – added in an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper: ‘Noel has been sending me lots of music, and I’ve been continually writing. It’s one of those things where we have to see what happens. There’s no point in bringing out a crappy record.
